What it is

Applied Nutrition BCAA Amino-Hydrate in Fruit Burst is a sugar-free intra-workout and recovery drink mix built around a 7g dose of branched-chain amino acids in a leucine-led 2:1:1 ratio (L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine), the amino acids most closely associated with supporting muscle protein synthesis and reducing training fatigue. Vitamin B6 rounds out the formula to support the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and normal energy-yielding metabolism. With zero sugar and effectively zero calories, it is designed to be sipped throughout a workout without adding to your daily intake, making it a clean choice for athletes, bodybuilders, powerlifters and general gym-goers who train hard and want to stay hydrated. The Fruit Burst flavour delivers a sweet mixed-fruit taste, coloured naturally with beetroot powder and sweetened with sucralose rather than sugar. The 450g tub provides 32 servings and, like the rest of the range, is manufactured in the UK and produced under Applied Nutrition's Informed-Sport-tested quality programme, so every batch is screened for banned substances at an ISO 17025 accredited lab. Nutrition (per serving): Per 14g serving (450g tub = 32 servings). Energy: 0 kcal | Protein: 0g (aminos are listed separately, not counted as protein) | Carbohydrate: 0g, of which sugars 0g | Fat: 0g, of which saturates 0g | Salt: a small amount is contributed via sodium chloride and sodium citrate in the electrolyte blend; Applied Nutrition lists the macro panel as effectively zero and does not publish a precise per-serving salt figure. Key actives per serving: BCAAs (2:1:1) ~7g total — L-Leucine the dominant fraction with L-Isoleucine and L-Valine; L-Glutamine 3g; L-Citrulline Malate (2:1) present (exact mg not officially disclosed); Electrolyte blend ~1,535mg (tri-potassium citrate, tri-sodium citrate, tri-calcium phosphate, sodium chloride); Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCl) present. No caffeine, no creatine, no beta-alanine. On training days, sip during exercise; On non-training days it can be consumed throughout the day. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Not intended as a substitute for a varied diet; Keep out of reach of young children.

Fruit Burst is a sweet mixed-fruit taste coloured with beetroot powder, and it is the easiest of the three to drink for a whole session.

Who it's for

Gym-goers, bodybuilders, Muay Thai and endurance athletes training hard in humid conditions who want aminos and lost minerals covered in a single scoop.

How to use it

Each 14g scoop pairs that BCAA hit with 3g of L-Glutamine for recovery support and L-Citrulline Malate to help promote blood flow and 'pump' during training, then adds a dedicated electrolyte blend (tri-potassium citrate, tri-sodium citrate, tri-calcium phosphate and sodium chloride) to replace what you lose through sweat and keep you hydrated across a session. Directions: Mix 1 scoop (14g) with approximately 500ml of water and shake well. Take 1-3 servings daily as required.

Worth knowing

Stimulant-free and caffeine-free. Bear in mind BCAAs are three of the nine essential aminos, so if your daily protein is low, food or an EAA is the better first move.

Our take

This is our default suggestion for training in Thai heat: 7g of BCAAs plus a proper electrolyte blend, so hydration and recovery come from one bottle. Fruit Burst is the crowd-pleaser of the three flavours. If you train fasted or want the complete set of nine essential aminos, take Amino Fuel instead.
